Krystal Languell lives in Chicago, where she is a member of the Policy & Program Committee for the 49th Ward and the Refugee Community Connection network of volunteers.
She is the author of four books of poetry, most recently Systems Thinking with Flowers, selected by Rae Armantrout as the winner of the first fonograf editions book contest, and published in early 2022. Her earlier books are: Call the Catastrophists (BlazeVox, 2011), Gray Market (1913 Press, 2016), and Quite Apart (University of Akron Press, 2019).
She has published many chapbooks, including: Yacht Problems (Belladonna* Collaborative, 2022), Last Song (dancing girl press, 2014), Be a Dead Girl (Argos Books, 2014), Fashion Blast Quarter (Flying Object, 2014), Diamonds in the Flesh, a collaboration w/ Robert Alan Wendeborn, (Double Cross Press, 2015), Archive Theft, a collection of interviews, (Essay Press, 2015), and The Big Flawed Heart (Essay Press, 2017). New and recent work can be found in Black Warrior Review, Colorado Review, A Dozen Nothing, and elsewhere.
A NYSCA/NYFA 2017 Artist Fellowship Finalist in Poetry, she previously completed a Lower Manhattan Cultural Council workspace residency in 2014-15 and a Poetry Project Emerge-Surface-Be fellowship in 2013-14. For ten years, she helped coordinate the activities of Belladonna* Collaborative. She’s published the feminist poetry journal Bone Bouquet since 2010.
She held many titles while working as an adjunct professor in New York City, including finally Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities & Media Studies at Pratt Institute where she taught in the First Year Writing Program, the Graduate Communications Design Program, and Writing Across the Curriculum. She was a member of PSC-CUNY from 2010-2015 and UFCT Local 1460 from 2016-2018. She earned a BA from Indiana University and an MFA from New Mexico State University, and now works as a financial controller for a private family foundation.
